The Georgetown Super 8 Film Festival has experienced four successful years of growth in participating
filmmakers and attendance at the film screening event. In 2006, 32 films were submitted and the film
screening night hosted over 200 attendees in the Georgetown Ballroom. In 2007, individuals or filmmaking teams completed 37 films with over 200 in attendance for the film screening night at the Museum of Flight. In 2008 the film festival experienced tremendous growth with a crowd of over 500 people packing a warehouse room in the Rainier Cold storage building to see 46 neighbor created films. Last years film festival responded to growing participation (57 film were submitted) by reformatting the event into an all daymultiple-screening event at several local spaces in Georgetown. This year we expect to screen over65 films which will allow GS8 to surpass the mark of helping to create over 200 films in its' 5-year history.
The Georgetown Super 8 Film Festival (GS8) is a community based event dedicated to the creation and sharing of un-juried, amateur super 8 films, with the goal of promoting individual creativity and community understanding. GS8 educates participants in super 8 filmmaking and provides them with equipment, free of charge, to make films, which are screened local venues for the entire community.
